Eloy Room Makes 15 Saves as Curacao Earns First World Cup Point

Room's save total left him one shy of Tim Howard's World Cup mark of 16, set against Belgium on July 1, 2014. Howard needed 120 minutes to reach that number. Nobody has made more saves in regulation time than Room since saves became an official stat in 1966. The result also allowed Germany, which beat Ivory Coast 2-1 earlier Saturday, to clinch Group E.

It's going to be an insane memory. You don't think about it when you do it but of course it's going to be something you look back to. For me as a goalkeeper, this is almost a perfect game.

The match was played at the home of the Kansas City Chiefs, where Ecuador's yellow-clad support heavily outnumbered Curacao fans. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands were among those in attendance after watching the Dutch beat Sweden earlier in Houston.
