The ring was crafted by jeweller M J Jones and carries an estimated value of between £5,000 and £7,000. Bidding is set to begin at 9.30am on Friday. Football fans and collectors interested in owning the piece can register for live online bidding at www.eastbourneauction.com or www.easyliveauction.com.

Ring design and auction interest

Eastbourne Auctions has described the sale as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of football history connected to one of the game's greatest stars.

Jeannette May from Eastbourne Auctions said:

We are so excited to have secured this ring for auction, especially with the World Cup on our television every night at the moment.

May added that the ring was commissioned by Messi at his favorite jewelers M J Jones, whose customers included elite footballers such as Luis Suárez, Raphinha, Belloli, Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford.

His customers also included world class teams such as Atletico Madrid and even the National Brazilian football team

May described the piece itself in detail:

It is absolutely stunning - a clear sapphire head enclosing a World Cup trophy, alongside baguette and round-cut diamonds.
The ring also bears the Argentine Football Association crest and the inscription Campeones 2022.

May said interest in the ring has already been substantial:

We have already had a huge level of interest in this - and we are not surprised.

Messi's World Cup win and the jeweller behind the ring

Messi, captain of Argentina, led his side to a memorable World Cup win, beating France 4-2 on penalties.

The ring was made by Nottingham-based jeweller Mathew J Jones, known for his modern, masculine designs. Mr Jones grew up travelling the country with his father, football manager Mick Jones, and was inspired by luxury brands.

From liquidation sale to auction block

Sadly, Jones's business faced difficulties in early 2024 after opening a flagship London store. BBK were appointed in June 2025, and all the remaining stock including this ring was sold off.

The current owner purchased the ring at the Liquidation Sale and has now put it up for auction through Eastbourne Auctions in Sussex on June 26.
