Manager Javier Aguirre addressed the ejection after the match.

César's ejection was avoidable in many ways. But it's part of the game, and we're preparing now for what comes next.

Edson Álvarez looks like the most straightforward replacement. The former Mexico captain underwent surgery on his left ankle in February and had been behind Montes and Erik Lira on the roster because of limited minutes with Fenerbahce since returning. The 28-year-old did play extensively in El Tri's final three friendlies before the tournament as Aguirre tried to get him match ready.

Aguirre said last week that Montes's red card made Edson Álvarez the likely choice at center back.

And now with César's red card, it's very likely that Edson plays in the center. Very likely.

Most of the rest of Mexico's starting eleven is expected to resemble the lineup used against South Africa. Aguirre could also bring 17-year-old Gilberto Mora into the midfield for his quickness and explosiveness against a high-octane South Korean side.

Mexico is in Group A. The USMNT is in Group D.
