Defender César Montes is suspended for Mexico after a red card in the South Africa match, a notable absence with Raul Jimenez carrying momentum after heading home his first World Cup goal in that opener. South Korea bring resilience from their Czechia comeback, with Lee Kang-in and Son Heung-Min among the threats Mexico must contain.

Early action has already produced key moments. In the fourth minute, Luis Romo was shown a yellow card for a challenge on Lee Kang-in during Romo's first tournament start. Mexico tested South Korea through early efforts from Gutierrez and Alvarado without a breakthrough. In the 16th minute, a long ball from Kang-in found Son, who chipped toward goal and rattled the post before the sideline official flagged him offside.

With both teams positioned as group contenders, the next 90 minutes will determine which side takes a major step toward the round of 16.
