Joao Neves headed Roberto Martinez's side into an early lead, but Yoane Wissa equalised for the African nation just before half-time. The stalemate left Portugal under immediate scrutiny, with much of the frustration landing on 41-year-old captain Ronaldo following an inefficient attacking display. Ronaldo became the oldest outfield player to start a World Cup match while extending a ten-game tournament goal drought.

The Manchester City centre-back insisted the noise around Ronaldo is familiar territory for the squad.

The criticism isn't directed at just one player. Cris is a major focus, but everyone is under scrutiny at a moment like this. I don't think anything out of the ordinary is happening; it has been this way ever since I've been here, it will continue to be, so it's nothing new.

Dias said Portugal remain focused on their shared objective rather than social media speculation.

Honestly, all the speculation... it's a non-issue. We're all united around a dream, and my mind doesn't wander there. It appears on social media, but we don't pay attention to it and I don't feel it's a topic I need to address.

He acknowledged Portugal lost discipline after their strong start, saying the team relaxed, became less efficient, and failed to impose the fear they needed. Dias added that negative results naturally multiply outside criticism, but that does not shake the squad's confidence.

Portugal must quickly reconstruct their defensive discipline ahead of Tuesday's crucial Group K fixture against tournament debutants Uzbekistan in Houston. Securing three points remains vital to keeping their qualification ambitions intact before their final group stage meeting with Colombia.
