Undav has done all of his scoring as a substitute. Canada's Jonathan David and Argentina's Lionel Messi are right behind him. Both players have hat tricks to their name. Messi's three goal outing against Algeria tied him with Germany's Miroslav Klose for the most goals in World Cup history. David's hat trick came in Canada's first ever World Cup win, a 6-0 victory over Qatar.
As of Saturday night, 18 players had at least two goals in the tournament. That group includes France's Kylian Mbappé and Norway's Erling Haaland, both named in the current Golden Boot chase alongside Undav, David, and Messi. Mbappé, the 2022 Golden Boot winner with eight goals in Qatar, opened the scoring in France's opening match of this tournament and added a pair of goals in a win over Senegal on Tuesday. Haaland scored twice on his long awaited World Cup debut that same day, leading Norway to a convincing win over Iraq.
England's Harry Kane, the 2018 Golden Boot winner with six goals in Russia is also in the mix. Kane scored a record tying brace against Croatia on Wednesday, finding the net from the penalty spot and on a set piece header in a rematch of the teams' 2018 World Cup semifinal. Those goals tied Gary Lineker as the Three Lions' all time leading goal scorer at the World Cup.
