Tunisia goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen made an unbelievable save to keep Japan from doubling their lead by the finest of margins before goalline technology denied Japan what appeared to be another goal. Ueda later produced a strong finish, arrowing the ball through a defender's legs and into the far corner from the edge of the box for Japan's second goal of the night.
Group F has now seen 20 goals across its opening rounds. The Netherlands lead the group after cruising past Sweden 5-1, while Tunisia join Haiti and Turkey as teams eliminated after two matches under the head to head tie break rules used at this tournament. Japan and Sweden remain in the mix for progression.
I think with such a good scoreline you would think that even if it didn't quite go Japan's way against Sweden, they would fall in to the category of one of them third-placed finishers, with the results they have already got.
Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Andy Reid offered that assessment on the broadcast, framing Japan's position ahead of their remaining group work. Elsewhere on the same matchday, Germany came from behind to beat Ivory Coast 2-1 and seal knockout stage progression, while Curacao claimed their first ever World Cup point in a goalless draw with Ecuador.
