The 2026 FIFA World Cup is underway across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with tournament news rolling in from multiple fronts on Monday, June 15, 2026. From a potential coaching change in Tunisia to a televised apology from Jurgen Klopp and pushback on hydration breaks from Virgil van Dijk, here is the latest from around the tournament.

Tunisia Set to Sack Sabri Lamouchi After One Game

Tunisia look set to sack head coach Sabri Lamouchi after only one World Cup match, a 5-1 defeat to Sweden. The move would follow a run of poor results under Lamouchi, who has been in charge for five months and recorded just a solitary win in that span.

The reaction has been framed as extreme even by the standards of kneejerk tournament decisions. Tunisia may be looking to replicate the Ivory Coast model from the last Africa Cup of Nations, when that nation replaced its manager two matches into the competition and went on to win the tournament.

Seattle Heat and Upcoming USA-Australia Weather

From Seattle, where a record high temperature may be reached today, the forecast calls for 87 degrees by halftime of the Belgium-Egypt match at Lumen Field, also referred to as Seattle Stadium.

For USA-Australia on Friday, conditions are expected to cool off, with a forecast in the 70s.

Klopp Apologizes to Nagelsmann on German TV

Jurgen Klopp has apologized to Julian Nagelsmann on air, resolving a brewing controversy tied to comments Klopp made while naming his preferred lineup ahead of Germany's Curacao game. After outlining his choices, Klopp said, "fortunately, Julian Nagelsmann is still picking the team, for now," and repeated the "for now" line, which read as a swipe at the national team manager.

Klopp drew heavy criticism in the German media, including from former German internationals Andreas Moller, Stefan Effenberg, and Lothar Matthaus. Klopp has often been rumoured as a potential successor to Nagelsmann, which added weight to how the remark landed.

Klopp issued the apology last night following Germany's 7-1 win. Speaking on Magenta, he told Nagelsmann:

It was too late, I was on TV. It just slipped out carelessly, it meant nothing. What I've realized is: I'll be 59 the day after tomorrow, and I'm still an idiot. We're completely on your side. Nothing will be done to disrupt the process.

Nagelsmann graciously accepted the apology, and the two shook hands.

Klopp and Thomas Muller are working together as pundits and have leaned into a fan-in-the-stadium dynamic on television. Klopp wore a Germany shirt for the game, part of the knockabout broadcast tone that, in this case, got loose enough to spark a national debate.

Australia's 'Maccas Match Break' During Hydration Stops

Hydration breaks have become a defining feature of this World Cup, splitting matches into quarters and triggering commercial windows in multiple markets. In Australia, domestic broadcaster SBS runs full ad breaks during every hydration stop, and those breaks carry their own sponsor.

The sponsored segments are called the "Maccas Match Break," paid for by McDonald's. With many World Cup matches airing in the early hours of the morning in Australia, viewers who get hungry during a stop may be limited to breakfast menu options depending on timing.

Van Dijk Not a Fan of Constant Hydration Breaks

Hydration breaks inside an indoor stadium produced an unusual scene at Dallas Stadium. Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk said he is not a fan of the stoppages, both from his experience playing against Japan and from watching nearly every World Cup match so far.

Hydration breaks are really interesting, because I was watching almost all the games up until today. Every time going to commercial, it's a bit I (don't) like. "For the neutral watchers on TV, it's also not great. If it's really hot, obviously it would be good to put them in. But you have to look at it in every game separately, in my opinion. "I think I've said enough already."
