Xu runs Hypercho, an AI agent startup. Social posts suggest he upgraded to Claude Max 20x for the build, structured the project, pushed it to a repository, and got a sandbox running. Early footage reportedly showed a bean shaped default model hopping between obstacles on a nondescript landscape using the Unreal engine, though a longer post also references picking Godot for the effort.

Day 1 of building GTA 6. Still feels fake typing that out. Upgraded to Claude Max 20x for this.
The goal: beat the real GTA 6 to launch. Ambitious, probably stupid, doing it anyway.

Rockstar's GTA VI is widely expected this year, with September frequently cited as a possible window, though PC players may face a longer wait after console release. Xu appears committed to documenting the attempt, including a public code repository on GitHub and follow up progress clips.

By the next day, Xu flagged familiar vibe coding friction. A video update showed the bean replaced by a humanoid character in a stereotypical burglar outfit wandering a sunset cityscape, while the AI generated setting reportedly clashed with the intended Florida backdrop.

The agent built downtown LA skyscrapers, which is a problem, because this is supposed to be Florida.
Also I've burned 33 percent of my 20x weekly usage in one day. So that clock is ticking.

The project reportedly began in reply to AI entrepreneur Matt Shumer's call for vibe coders to use Anthropic's Fable model toward a GTA VI caliber open world. Shumer's pitch referenced scope and quality beyond initial Rockstar trailers. Fable is described as a downgraded, safer version of Mytho, a model Anthropic did not release publicly over coding capability concerns.

Xu is also recruiting human collaborators rather than relying on AI alone for every piece of the game.

If you can model, code, build levels, or write music and lore, come join. Time to cook.

Online reaction has been mixed, with at least one reply calling the stunt engagement bait. Whether the build is sincere ambition, ironic commentary on GTA 6's long wait, or both remains open to interpretation as Xu continues posting updates.
