Expectations that E-Day could follow other Microsoft titles onto rival hardware grew after the company broadened its multiplatform push. Gears of War: Reloaded marked the franchise's first appearance on a non-Xbox console. Separately, a PS5 logo reportedly appeared on a version of the E-Day trailer shown during the Xbox Games Showcase, fueling talk that Xbox exclusivity may have been a late call.
Earlier this week, Jeff Grubb claimed a finished PS5 build of E-Day was essentially sitting on a drive. Searcy's remarks point in a different direction.
Well, we never talked about it going to PS5.
Studio Brand Director Nicole Fawcette added:
It was never changed.
Searcy framed Xbox exclusivity as a natural fit for the series.
I would say that, Gears as an exclusive, makes a tonne of sense. It's kind of an honour, and exciting, to be one of the Xbox flagship titles.
Asked about reaching a smaller audience without a PS5 version, he said:
Of course, it's awesome to have [more] people play our games, but for Xbox and PC, you've got what is out there.
Gears of War: E-Day remains scheduled for release on October 6, 2026 for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
