Making the nation's first World Cup appearance since 1974, Haiti opened with a tight 1-0 loss to Scotland before the lopsided result against five-time champion Brazil. With two defeats, Haiti cannot mathematically advance. The expanded tournament sends the top two in each group plus the eight best third-place finishers into a newly created Round of 32.
Brazil scored all three goals in the first half. Haiti has now been held scoreless for 180 minutes at this World Cup. The Concacaf side reached the tournament after breaking a 52-year drought, doing so without playing any home qualifying games due to unrest in the country.
Haiti closes its World Cup campaign against Morocco in Atlanta on Wednesday, June 24.
