The move spares players from buying a new copy of the game for $39.99 or paying a separate upgrade fee if they have not moved their library forward yet. Rockstar announced the offer as part of a broader GTA Online update.
GTA Online will add heists at the Kortz Center in July, giving upgraded players fresh content to chase on newer hardware. Fans are still waiting on another trailer for GTA VI ahead of its November 19 release date, and pricing for the sequel has not been confirmed.
Other developers appear to be shifting release schedules to avoid launching into the same window as the highly anticipated sequel, which could make this free upgrade window one of the last major beats for GTA V before the franchise moves on.
