The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S editions of GTA V first launched on March 15, 2022. Those versions originally carried a $39.99 price tag and included GTA Online, with no free upgrade route from last generation consoles. The current generation releases support improved resolutions up to 4K, HDR, ray tracing, improved textures and draw distances, and gameplay up to 60 frames per second. The PlayStation 5 build also adds 3D audio and DualSense haptic feedback. Story progress from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One saves can transfer to the upgraded editions.
PC players can access the same improvements by upgrading from the Legacy edition to the Enhanced edition for free. GTA+ members can also play GTA V's story mode through the GTA+ Games Library.
The announcement coincides with an upcoming GTA Online update called The Kortz Center Heist, a major new mission set to launch in July. Rockstar's latest Grand Theft Auto VI trailer arrived in May 2025.
