Social posts suggest Twitter user GameVerse caught the detail at the 33 second mark. As the cashier turns his head, a wall painting shows a lizard wearing a blue floral shirt that matches Tommy Vercetti's look from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The image stays obscured until Jason slaps the cashier and is only clearly visible for about half a second, which may explain why it went largely unnoticed despite the trailer's massive view count.
GTA 6 and Vice City share a setting, so more references to the older game may still be waiting in the footage. Tommy Vercetti himself is unlikely to appear in person. Actor Ray Liotta, who voiced Tommy, passed away in 2022, and Rockstar has historically kept PS2 era titles separate from later entries.
The 'universes' are the worlds interpreted at different definitions, 2D, 3D and high definition, so we felt brands and radio/background characters would exist in both, but three-dimensional characters would not. This is the logic (as far as it could be considered logical) behind it, so no, we don't believe any GTA 3 characters could exist in the GTA 4 universe.
GTA 6 will seemingly feature Phil Cassidy, though the version shown does not appear to be the same continuity as the original Vice City character, since this Phil has both arms intact.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is set for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre orders are scheduled to open on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
