Phantom Blade: Zero has a new release date of October 29 after S-Game moved the action RPG back from its previous September 9 slot. That shift places the title closer to Grand Theft Auto 6, which is set for release in November.
Qiwei "Soulframe" Liang, director on the upcoming game, said the team is focused on quality rather than release window strategy. September is stacked with major launches, including The Blood of Dawnwalker, Marvel's Wolverine, Silent Hill: Townfall, Control: Resonant, and Halloween: The Game, but S-Game appears unconcerned about crowding near Rockstar's next open world entry.
Many people may think we have some marketing strategy to move it from the overcrowded September, and some are very worried that it's closer to November. We don't think about any of this. We only think of the quality of the product itself. I don't think competition can influence, much, the success of a work. Only the product itself matters.
Liang added that extra development time could help the team ship a more polished build rather than rely on a large day one patch.
We don't even think of the competition, what's launching ahead or after. What matters is how polished the game is, and if we have one or two extra months, we can fix more bugs, do more optimizations, so that we don't need a huge day one patch.
Phantom Blade: Zero is described as a blockbuster game with a more specific appeal than Grand Theft Auto. The title is also scheduled to have its own show this summer.
